Obesity is Common: prevalence in the U.S. almost 40% by CDC

Obesity is a serious chronic disease that is prevalent in the United States. The U.S. has a higher percentage of obesity than any other country increasing. The CDC reports that over 40% of Americans are clinically obese. This is the highest percentage ever recorded.

Although there isn’t one single solution to the obesity problem in the United States, as it’s a condition that requires a multi-faceted approach, there may be some changes you can make to decrease your likelihood of suffering from the condition. Healthy eating and an active lifestyle are known to be the best ways to combat obesity. If we don’t start practicing better daily habits, many diseases can arise, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.

Obesity can result from a combination of behavior and genetics and is more challenging to manage for certain people. It is known that demographic trends and the conditions in people’s lives impact their ability to maintain a healthy weight. Sometimes it’s not as easy as diet and exercise alone. Rural communities have higher rates than suburban or metro areas. Socioeconomics also plays a part as there are higher rates of obesity among certain races and ethnic populations and certain poverty levels.

Conditions need to improve for certain people to help increase their chances of fighting obesity. However, the daily choices we make – what we eat and drink and what we choose to do with our free time are the most controllable factor we possess. Obesity can cost people their mental health, their quality of life, and in some cases, their lives. Start living a healthier life today.
